Ibit's Farm Leads Gakakan Tree Conservation Project Through Seed Donations

City of San Fernando, La UnionIbit's Farm, led by Mr. Manuel Gurion Acosta, has launched a Gakakan Tree Conservation Project by donating Gakakan tree seeds to government agencies, schools, tourism stakeholders, and environmental advocates in La Union and other parts of the Philippines.

The project aims to protect and preserve the Gakakan tree, a native species that is becoming harder to find in many areas. By growing and planting more Gakakan trees today, the project hopes to prevent the species from disappearing and ensure that future generations can still enjoy its many environmental benefits.

This initiative is Mr. Acosta's personal contribution in support of the environmental programs of the Association of Tourism Industries and Networks in La Union (ATINLU) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of La Union (CCILU). It also encourages everyone—from government agencies and schools to businesses and local communities—to work together in protecting the environment.

The donated seeds will be grown by the recipient organizations before being planted in forests, watersheds, schools, parks, farms, and other suitable areas. As the trees grow, they will help improve biodiversity, prevent soil erosion, absorb carbon dioxide, and make communities more resilient to climate change.

Mr. Acosta believes that protecting native trees is everyone's responsibility.

"Every Gakakan tree we plant today helps protect our environment and gives future generations the chance to enjoy this valuable native tree. Conservation starts with each one of us."

ATINLU and CCILU welcomed the project, saying it is a great example of how the agriculture, tourism, business, education, and government sectors can work together to care for the environment.

Before judging Gwendoline Meliz Soriano, know the facts.

 Toxicity in Pageantry:

Before judging Gwendoline Meliz Soriano, know the facts.

Long before she became Bb. Pilipinas International 2026, she had already founded Project Beloved PH, empowering the youth through outreach and volunteerism. She never needed a crown to serve her community because service has always been part of who she is.

Saying she is not using her platform for the country ignores the work she has already been doing even before winning a title.

Gwendoline is a beauty queen, not a political activist. No title obliges someone to speak on every issue. She has already expressed her stand against corruption, and she has every right to choose how and when to use her voice.

Instead of attacking someone who has just achieved a remarkable milestone, why not celebrate her success? We don't have to agree on everything, but we should at least be fair. Judge people based on facts—not assumptions. Sometimes, the best way to honor someone's victory is to let them enjoy it.

Gwendoline & Sasha: Never Stop Dreaming

Never Stop Dreaming—and Reaching for It

Every dream begins with the courage to take the first step. For Gwendoline Meliz Soriano and Sasha-Juli Belle Lacuna, the road was filled with determination, growth, and resilience.

After competing in Miss Universe Philippines 2025—where Gwendoline finished as a Top 12 Finalist and Sasha placed in the Top 24—they chose to continue chasing their dreams instead of giving up.

One year later, their perseverance paid off. Gwendoline was crowned Bb. Pilipinas–International 2026, while Sasha earned the title of Bb. Pilipinas–Globe 2026, proving that every pageant, every challenge, and every experience prepared them for this defining moment.

Their journey is a reminder that success is not always about winning the first time. Sometimes, it's about believing in yourself, returning stronger, and never stopping until your dreams become reality.

Dream. Persevere. Rise. Repeat.

Why Gwendoline Meliz Soriano Deserved the Binibining Pilipinas International 2026 Crown

Gwendoline Meliz Soriano's winning answer was not the longest or the most theatrical—it was authentic, purposeful, and heartfelt. She answered the question directly by sharing her vision of becoming an aspirational leader, making it clear that the Binibining Pilipinas crown is not the destination but a platform to inspire others.

Rather than focusing on personal success, she emphasized uplifting people, encouraging them to believe in their dreams, and becoming a source of hope. This shift from self to service reflects the qualities of a true titleholder.

One of the most memorable moments of her response was her acknowledgment that she stands where she is not because of her own strength, beauty, or skills, but by the grace of God. Regardless of one's beliefs, this statement conveyed genuine humility, gratitude, and self-awareness—qualities that cannot be rehearsed.

She concluded by defining the legacy she hopes to leave: not fame or influence, but to be remembered as someone with a big faith and a big heart. It is a powerful reminder that true success is measured by character rather than recognition.

Ultimately, Gwendoline's answer embodied purpose over prestige, service over self, and character over recognition. Combined with her elegance, composure, and consistent performance throughout the competition, she demonstrated why she was a deserving Binibining Pilipinas International 2026—a queen whose crown symbolizes leadership, humility, and a genuine commitment to inspire others.

A woman of strength:Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2026 Sasha-Juli Belle Lacuna

Born and raised on a farm in Tarlac, Bb. Pilipinas Globe 2026 Sasha-Juli Belle Lacuna has turned her life's challenges into a source of strength. Born with Nevus of Ota, a congenital skin condition that causes hyperpigmentation around the eye, she revealed that she was often bullied as a child because of her appearance. Despite those painful experiences, Sasha refused to let her condition define her. Instead, with the unwavering support of her parents, she learned to embrace her uniqueness and wear it with pride.

Today, as a beauty queen, she is using her platform to remind everyone that beauty is not measured by flawless skin or perfect features, but by confidence, authenticity, and self-acceptance. Her journey proves that the very thing others once used to put her down has become one of her greatest sources of inspiration for others.

The Comeback for a Crown!

 The Comeback for a Crown!

Maxine Medina's pageant journey is a reminder that sometimes, the right timing makes all the difference.

Back in 2012, Maxine was already selected as an official Binibining Pilipinas candidate. However, she had to withdraw before the competition because of a conflict with her endorsement contract. Instead of giving up on her dream, she waited for another opportunity. Four years later, she returned to the Binibining Pilipinas stage in 2016, won the Binibining Pilipinas–Universe title, and went on to represent the Philippines at Miss Universe 2016, where she finished in the Top 6. Her story proves that a setback doesn't mean the dream is over—it may simply mean the timing isn't right yet.

A similar story can be seen in Gwendoline Meliz Soriano of Baguio City. She was supposed to compete in Binibining Pilipinas 2022, but withdrew from the competition due to personal reasons before the pageant. This year, she has returned to the Binibining Pilipinas stage, determined to chase the dream she had to put on hold. Gwendoline herself shared that becoming a Binibini has been her childhood dream, making her comeback even more meaningful.

Just like Maxine Medina, Gwendoline is showing that second chances can lead to great opportunities. Whether or not history repeats itself remains to be seen, but many pageant fans are hoping that this comeback will end with Gwendoline earning the Binibining Pilipinas International crown and the chance to represent the Philippines on the Miss International stage. Only the coronation night will tell if her persistence will be rewarded.

Protect Mangroves, Protect Our Future

🌿 Benefits of Mangroves to the Environment

Mangroves are among the world's most valuable coastal ecosystems. They provide numerous environmental, economic, and social benefits.

🌊 1. Protect Coastlines

  • Act as natural barriers against storm surges, typhoons, and tsunamis.
  • Reduce coastal erosion by stabilizing shorelines with their extensive root systems.

🐟 2. Support Marine Life

  • Serve as breeding, nursery, and feeding grounds for fish, crabs, shrimps, mollusks, and other marine species.
  • Help sustain fisheries and seafood production.

🌍 3. Combat Climate Change

  • Absorb and store large amounts of carbon dioxide (known as "Blue Carbon").
  • Help reduce greenhouse gases and slow global warming.

💧 4. Improve Water Quality

  • Filter sediments, pollutants, and excess nutrients before they reach coral reefs and seagrass beds.
  • Keep coastal waters cleaner and healthier.

🦜 5. Preserve Biodiversity

  • Provide habitat for birds, reptiles, mammals, insects, and countless marine organisms.
  • Support rich and diverse ecosystems.

🌾 6. Support Livelihoods

  • Sustain fishing communities by increasing fish populations.
  • Promote ecotourism, environmental education, and sustainable livelihoods.

🌧️ 7. Reduce Flooding

  • Slow down tidal waters and absorb excess water during storms and heavy rains.
  • Help minimize flooding in coastal communities.

📚 Why Do We Need to Be Educated About the Benefits of Mangroves?

Education empowers people to understand the critical role mangroves play in protecting both people and nature.

By learning about mangroves, we can:

  • 🌱 Appreciate their ecological and economic importance.
  • 🌊 Understand how they protect communities from natural disasters.
  • 🐠 Recognize their role in sustaining fisheries and food security.
  • 🌍 Become aware of their contribution to climate change mitigation.
  • 🤝 Encourage community participation in conservation efforts.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Inspire future generations to become environmental stewards.

An informed community is more likely to support conservation and sustainable management of mangrove forests.

🌿 Why Do We Need to Protect Mangroves?

Protecting mangroves is essential because once they are destroyed, they can take decades to recover.

We need to protect them because they:

  • 🛡️ Shield coastal communities from storms and erosion.
  • 🐟 Sustain fisheries and food supplies.
  • 🌎 Store significant amounts of carbon, helping combat climate change.
  • 🦀 Provide habitat for countless wildlife species.
  • 💧 Maintain healthy coastal ecosystems.
  • 💚 Support local livelihoods and ecotourism.
  • 🌱 Ensure future generations can continue benefiting from these vital ecosystems.

Unfortunately, mangroves are threatened by coastal development, illegal cutting, pollution, land conversion, and climate change. Their protection requires the combined efforts of government agencies, local communities, schools, environmental organizations, and every citizen.

🌿 Key Message

"Protect Mangroves, Protect Life."

Mangroves are more than just trees along the coast—they are natural shields, carbon sinks, nurseries for marine life, and lifelines for coastal communities. By protecting and restoring mangrove forests today, we secure a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for generations to come. 🌊💚

Prune, Don't Cut!

Benefits of Trees Along Highways

1. Improve Air Quality

  • Absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂), a major greenhouse gas.
  • Release oxygen essential for human life.
  • Filter dust, smoke, and other airborne pollutants from vehicle emissions.

2. Reduce Heat

  • Provide shade for pedestrians, motorists, and nearby communities.
  • Lower road surface temperatures, reducing the urban heat island effect.
  • Help decrease energy consumption in nearby buildings by providing natural cooling.

3. Prevent Soil Erosion

  • Tree roots stabilize the soil, especially on slopes and embankments.
  • Reduce the risk of landslides and roadside erosion during heavy rains.

4. Reduce Flooding

  • Absorb rainwater and slow stormwater runoff.
  • Increase water infiltration into the ground, reducing pressure on drainage systems.

5. Improve Road Safety

  • Properly maintained trees reduce glare from the sun.
  • Act as windbreaks during strong winds.
  • Help reduce noise pollution from traffic.

6. Enhance Biodiversity

  • Provide habitat for birds, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial wildlife.
  • Support local ecosystems.

7. Beautify the Landscape

  • Create a pleasant environment for motorists and tourists.
  • Increase the aesthetic value of roads and surrounding communities.

Why Pruning is Better than Total Cutting

1. Maintains Public Safety

Pruning removes:

  • Dead branches
  • Weak limbs
  • Branches obstructing traffic signs
  • Limbs interfering with power lines
  • Branches extending into traffic lanes

This improves safety while preserving the tree.

2. Preserves Environmental Benefits

Unlike complete removal, pruning allows the tree to continue:

  • Producing oxygen
  • Absorbing carbon dioxide
  • Providing shade
  • Supporting wildlife

3. More Cost-Effective

Healthy trees require only periodic maintenance. Removing a tree often involves:

  • Cutting
  • Stump removal
  • Disposal
  • Replacement planting
  • Years of maintenance before a new tree reaches maturity

4. Maintains Tree Health

Professional pruning:

  • Removes diseased branches
  • Improves air circulation
  • Encourages healthy growth
  • Reduces the risk of branch failure

5. Prevents Unnecessary Loss of Mature Trees

A mature tree may take 20–50 years or more to replace. Once removed, its environmental benefits are lost for decades.

6. Supports Climate Change Mitigation

Large mature trees store significantly more carbon than young trees. Keeping healthy trees helps reduce greenhouse gases.

When Total Cutting is Necessary

Tree removal should be considered only when a tree:

  • Is dead or dying.
  • Has severe disease or pest infestation beyond treatment.
  • Is structurally unstable and at risk of falling.
  • Has roots causing serious damage to critical infrastructure.
  • Cannot be made safe through pruning.
  • Must be removed for essential public infrastructure projects after proper assessment.

Comparison

PruningTotal Cutting
Preserves the treeRemoves the tree permanently
Maintains shadeEliminates shade
Continues carbon absorptionStops carbon absorption
Lower environmental impactHigher environmental impact
Improves safety while retaining benefitsImproves safety but loses environmental benefits
Less expensive over timeMore expensive due to removal and replacement

Conclusion

Pruning is a sustainable approach that balances public safety with environmental conservation. By selectively removing hazardous or obstructive branches, authorities can protect motorists while preserving the many ecological, economic, and social benefits that mature roadside trees provide. Total cutting should be reserved only for trees that are dead, hazardous, or cannot be safely preserved through proper arboricultural management.

Hadlang sa Pag-iibigan

Hadlang sa Pag-iibigan
by : Airwind Bautista

Lagi siyang naroon, laging may mensahe, laging may pakialam.

Muli siyang natutong tumawa.

Muli siyang natutong mangarap.

At higit sa lahat...

Muli siyang natutong magmahal.

Throughout the day, applicants are given the chance to have their documents processed and explore various maritime job openings offered by participating employers. The event aims to make recruitment more accessible by bringing career opportunities closer to the maritime community.

Beyond employment opportunities, the activity also recognizes the important role of seafarers' families. As a special treat, wives and partners of seafarers are invited to enjoy pampering activities and wellness services, creating a more family-centered and welcoming atmosphere for everyone attending.

The Careers on Wheels Mobile Job Fair is more than just a recruitment event—it is a meaningful initiative that supports the livelihood of Filipino seafarers and their families. By providing direct access to employment opportunities, Crossworld helps empower maritime professionals to continue serving their loved ones while contributing to the growth of the country's maritime industry and economy.
