A forum on Social Entrepreneurship was held at the City Hall Lobby of the City of San Fernando, La Union attended by the officers of ATIN (Association of Tourism Industries and Networks in La Union), together with the members of the JCI, Rotary Club and students of SLC, DMMMSU, Lorma Colleges, UCC and St. John Bosco. It was held last August 19, 2017 at 9 am.

The event started with the acknowledgment of the participants by the host, Miss Angelica Maranan, an educator from DMMMSU. Mr. Vic Buenaventura relayed an overview of the event on how the social experiment, social exchange and social engineering are essential tools for the improvement for a better San Fernando. Session 1: "The Business of Caring and Sharing" A discussion on Social Entrepreneur and presentations on grown-up development models with the panel composed of Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farms representatives who discussed about the need of entrepreneurship to sustain the needs of the people, to train the people to do good things by having a source of income instead of just giving them help. It is also need to make follow-up to see to it that they have a growing entrepreneur and not stagnant so that they can have a sustainable income. A creative expression of our becoming, thus love what you do and do what you love since that is the core of entrepreneurship and doing good is a good business thus it is also a need to maintain good relationship with other people. It was moderated by Ms. Mikka Buenaventura who mentioned that "ang solusyon sa kahirapan Ay nasa Mga mahihirap" which is so true that we ourselves as poor must work to grow. Session 2: "Social Justice: The Foundation of a People's City" A discussion on the prospects, challenges and insights for the economic and social growth of San Fernando and the Province of La Union. It was composed of Xavier Mercado, chairman of ATIN, Randy Berber, JCI San Fernando Saluyot, Rosa Novencino, DMMMSU-MLUC, a Gerry Faerlan, of Metro Water District, Franz Trajano of Gawad Kalinga and Vic Buenaventura of City Mayor's Office. All in all, the panel discussed how both the public and the private sectors provide opportunities for entrepreneurship within the city . A lot of initiatives aims to promote the education on professional social entrepreneurship as well as the private business sectors who are ready to be mentors of budding entrepreneurs. STI College La Union’s Talent Search 2017

Every year, the STI College La Union conducts a talent search to choose the talented students who will represent their campus in the Regional Level and eventually to the national level of the talent search of all the campuses of STI College in the Philippines.

Last July 31, 2017, the said contest was held with the talent search of vocal solo, band and dance group in the morning and pageant in the afternoon.

La Union Beauty Queen in National Pageants featuring Shawntel Michole Cruz for Miss World Philippines 2017

Shawntel Michole Cruz is a La Union beauty queen who will be representing the province in a national pageant, Miss World Philippines 2017.

It was in Mutia ti Santo Tomas 2016, Santo Tomas, La Union, where I had first seen her where she emerged as a winner and cinched a lot of awards too then I again saw her during her farewell walk as Miss Baguio Liga ng mga Barangay 2015 in Miss Miss Baguio 2016 where she was a stunner in her yellow gown. Then she clinched the Mutia ti Turismo in Mutia ti la Union 2017 pageant and eventually brought home the Miss Virginia Tobacco 2017, Candon City, Ilocos Sur thus she claim the victory since the last Miss La Union beauty who won was wayback 2013 thru Angelica Maranan under same handler, Mama Rex Vitales.

Shawntel Michole Cruz, is called Shawntel by people close to her and she is a commercial and Print Ad model at the same time a recording artist and a Beauty Queen by Heart.

As a daughter, she is blessed to have a loving and supporting family. Her dad Michael, mom Julie Ann and little brother Matthan, and the love and care that they give her is the reason enough for her to work hard. Shawntel said “I mean I could never outgive them but I give my best to be a blessing to them.”

As a friend, she have always been the one who sees to it that she encourage, give care and love her friends. She have not a bunch of people to call friends but what she have are loyal and caring friends and until now they are always there for her As a school girl , school has always been her priority. She graduated elementary level with honors and graduated Highschool as Valedictorian and am a consistent Dean's Lister in my College. She value education because it comes in hardworks.

Her first pageant was in highschool, she represented the Freshmen and won the title Miss Sacred Praise Christian Academy. Her family, friends and teachers were the one's who encouraged her to join beauty pageants because they said that she always had that beauty queen features.

She won the following pageant: Miss Sacred Praise Christian Academy 2009 Miss Easter College 2013 Miss Teen Earth Ph Finalist 2014 Miss Baguio Liga Ng Barangay 2015 Mutia ti Sto. Tomas 2016 (she originally had the Miss Barangay crown but she clinched the title when the winner wasn’t able to fulfill her duties since she needed to go abroad) Mutia ti La Union Turismo 2017 Miss Virginia Tobacco 2017

Shawntel considers, as her ultimate pageant title that she wants to achieve as of now is the Miss World Philippines because it is a portal for her to be able to share her outmost purpose and that is to be an epitome of change. She wants to be the Salt and Light, something that has never been seen in a beauty queen.

Among the people behind her pageant's success that she wants to extend gratitude includes God, because she had been always faithful to His promises for her, her family, friends and supporters for they have always been a great inspiration to her. Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray are her pageant icons, because they have always been a great example of perseverance and humility that she admire the most.

For everyone to know, Shawntel is a church worker and she grew up in a Christian Family. In her heart, she have always desired to be a missionary to stand for the people that she represent, the ordinary people with Big Dreams.

She wants to continue her dream being in the Commercial and print Ad Industry and also to continue her passion as a recording artist.

According to Shawntel, the best thing about being a beauty queen is how you crave more of learning and knowing the strength to overcome everytime you fight battles.

She is an open book and what people see in her is genuine and real thus she doesn’t have any beauty secret rather she maintain her beauty just be her her self.

And she wants to share this to other to “Continue to dream big. Be consistent, persistent and prayerful in everything that you do. Be humble and well-grounded. For even to the little things that you can do, could always inspire a soul.”

Shawntel is a promising recording artist aside from a potential beauty queen thus her supporters, wish that this pageant will give her the opportunity to explore and be able to shine using her talent and beauty and be able to represent La Union not just in the country but to the whole world.
