Sulyap Gallery Café, Boutique Hotels and Restaurant.
Experience a sumptuous “taste of the past” with multi-awarded and world-renowned Sulyap Gallery Café, Boutique Hotels and Restaurant. They offer the best traditional and modern Filipino Cuisine, the comfort of a bed and breakfast experience, and the journey of exploring their classical picturesque heritage. It is located at Brgy. Del Remedio, Cocoland Compound, San Pablo City, Laguna. The property is owned by Mr. Arthur T. Reyes and Mr. Roy Empalmado, local distributors of Torres wines imported from Spain.
Sulyap is a Filipino word for glimpse, thus visiting the place is a glimpse of the lifestyle of the past. Sulyap Gallery and Cafe is more than just a cafe. The place had several ancestral houses with rooms which can be rented out with bed and breakfast set in a spacious garden with tropical fruits trees like rambutan, mangoes and lansones. The place have casas for the travelers to stay, Casa de Alitagtag and Casa de San Juan, transferred from Batangas, Casa de Obando, from Bulacan and Casa del Remedio from Cabay, Quezon. These houses were transferred and rebuilt within the property more than a decade ago.
Casa de Alitagtag is an ancestral house from Alitagtag in Batangas province. The house boasts of four large bedrooms and period furniture of the era.
The property is also a venue place, restaurant and lifestyle museum in a tropical garden setting. Reservation is necessary especially during peak seasons and summer months since it is flocked by local and foreign tourists.
Sulyap Art Gallery and Events Place, There is a three-story building located within the property which used to be a building of Southern Luzon College then it became an office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue before being converted into a lifestyle museum and event place.
There is also a swimming pool at the backyard and it is elevated that reminds the visitors of how courtyard looks like in the past.
One thing to applaud about Sulyap is the effort of the owner, Architect Roy Empalmado, to preserve culture thru the effort of restoring old houses and encouraging the young to learn how to look back with how people live in the past and appreciate more our culture.
